The Commission Process

After your initial enquiry, we have to discuss your preferences of size and medium.  The next step is to look through your photos (posted or email jpegs) and decide on the final details of the painting.  I will email images of your portrait in progress at various stages to be sure all looks as it should.  This is the time to make changes or suggestions if you wish.  When the portrait is completed, I will send a proof of the painting to you via email.  When you are completely satisfied with this image, payment can be forwarded to me prior to shipment of you original.

I use only the finest quality paints and pastels on acid free archival papers and canvases. The finished painting is then varnished or fixed for its safety and long life. Please note that pastel paintings should ALWAYS be matted and framed under glass as soon as possible. They are very fragile.

Commissioned works can take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks for Graphite, to 4 months for Acrylic.  This depend heavily on the portraits I am working on and my current waiting list.  I accept Christmas orders 6 months in advance.  If the portrait is a special gift, and short notice, I have Gift Certificates available.

Additional Info:

Extra charges for detailed backgrounds (landscapes, etc) - additional $50 - $100. Please ask about special prices for combination head & full body portraits.  Also special rates apply for multiple portrait orders.
Shipping: All shipping charges are extra
Taxes: Prices do not include PST
Payment: upon initial order 25% deposit in advance, after design and sketch approval 25%, balance due upon completion of portrait. Cash, money order, cashiers check (certified check), business checks (35$ NSF)
Framing: If shipping paintings, I do not recommend matting and framing until you have received the painting, and then, only by a reputable framer.  Inexpensive matts and frames can be purchased at department stores, but they can contain materials that can damage your paintings and turn papers yellow.
If you live in the London/St.Thomas area I can matt and frame your portrait, if you so desire.  I use only high quality acid free matts and framing materials.  Framing costs will be added to the price quoted.
Copyright: Copyright for any and all work is retained by the artist and Painted Paws. The artist reserves the right to use electronically imaged copies of commissioned work for her own portfolio sample and promotional purposes. However, due to the nature of personal commissions, the artist will seek the permission and understanding of the client where possible.

Gift Certificates are available! Consider this for the animal lover in your life.
